Laser treatment for eyes – technique
Only most modern technology generates maximum safety. This applies for all locations of the Smile Eyes eye clinics. Our excimer laser is a MEL 80, and our femtosecond laser is a VisuMax; both devices were developed and constructed by Zeiss. In 1986, the first commercially available ophthalmological excimer laser was introduced to the public: the MEL 50 by Zeiss. Carl Zeiss Meditech has traditional technological experience with lasers for the treatment of ametropia.

The special software of the MEL 80 can control laser interventions either by topography or by aberometer.
An active eye tracker with excellent feedback times and an ultra-fast IR camera tracks even the fastest movements of the eye, at 250 hertz. This enables safe centring of the eye and an extremely fast guidance of the laser beam. Constant check of the eye movements while abrasing the tissue is most important for safe treatment. With an individual pulse frequency and minimum spot diameter, the MEL 80 performs corneal abrasions in unmatched quality - precisely, steadily and tissue-friendly. Very smooth surfaces originate from the great overlapping zones of the laser spot even in cases of complicated aberrations (imaging defects of the lens).
