Femto LASIK – general information
The Femto LASIK method represents a further development of the LASIK method. With the Femto LASIK method, the corneal flap is prepared with the help of a femtosecond laser. The precision of the laser allows a very precise creation of a corneal flap, independent from the shape and the nature of the respective eye. In our Smile Eyes eye clinics we use the femtosecond laser VisuMax®, manufactured by Carl Zeiss AG; using this instrument, the surgeon will within a few seconds create a microscopic cut in the cornea, to create the corneal flap. Using this laser system it is possible to achieve more precise sight correction while being less invasive to the tissue; this new procedure also provides for a further reduction of risks related to the cut.
Further possibilities of sight correction are offered by alternative eye laser methods and lens surgery.
Femto LASIK – surgery procedure
The Femto LASIK surgery doesn’t require hospitalization. The eye to be operated will be anesthetized using eye drops. The surgery takes only a few minutes and doesn’t involve pain.During the first hours after the surgery it can happen that your eye will produce tears or itch and that you will have a blurred vision. Usually near to normal sight capacity is already restored on the day following the surgery. During the first few weeks after surgery there may occur slight fluctuations to the sight capacity until final stabilization will usually be reached after 4 to 6 weeks.
During the first week after the surgery you must not rub the operated eye nor use make-up. You should also be careful that no water enters the operated eye if you wash yourself or take a shower.
Femto LASIK – risks
Responsible behavior and our quality management help to reduce risks to a minimum, but they cannot be totally excluded. However, there is a possible solution for nearly all complications, as long as the patient and the doctor react correctly. The use of the most recent technology in our sites, continuing education on a periodical basis, the experience of our surgeons and of the complete Smile Eyes Team contribute significantly to minimizing any risks of femto LASIK surgeries.
The risks involved are comparable to those of the standard LASIK surgery („Risks with LASIK“). However, the proportion of complications resulting from the cut is substantially lower when using a femtosecond laser, and the stability of the cornea is probably higher, owing to the evenness of the cornea flap.
